History

The Rolex Air King 5500 Super Precision, introduced in 1957, was a notable addition to Rolex's lineup. It featured the Caliber 1530 movement, known for its exceptional accuracy and reliability. The watch was designed to cater to the needs of pilots and aviation enthusiasts, hence the "Air King" moniker. With its timeless design and precision timekeeping, the Air King 5500 became a favorite among professionals and collectors alike. It remained in production until the late 1980s, leaving behind a legacy of quality craftsmanship and enduring style.

Condition

We present this absolutely stunning vintage Rolex Air-King 5500 in fantastic condition. The watch is in overall brilliant condition and features a fantastic eggshell coloured dial which is complimented nicely with silvery bronze markers and hands. The watch is in fantastic mechanical order and is keeping great time within specification. After many days of testing and examination of the movement it is clear that this mechanism is running perfectly and is in fantastic condition. 

Dial - The white/eggshell dial is in lovely condition apart from one small scratch at the bottom side of the dial. We understand that some people will perceive it as an issue. Therefore, we have priced this watch at just £2,595! 

Case - The case is in fantastic condition and shows very light signs of use. 

Crown - The crown is its original Rolex screw down and is in excellent condition and works perfectly in all of its functions. 

Movement - This piece encases its original Rolex Calibre 1520 Automatic movement. Although not serviced by us, after testing we can see that from the movement’s health and timekeeping ability it is evident that the watch has been serviced recently. To wind the watch the crown is unscrewed and pulled out ever so slightly and rotated clockwise. Please don’t force the winding of the watch. It becomes evident when the watch is fully would as you will feel resistant. Do not try to wind past this point. To change the time, the crown will need to be pulled out to its furthest position and rotated forward. 

Case back - The case back is original with all of its Rolex markings on the inner. It shows some signs of wear from use over its decades of life. 

Bracelet - This piece features its original Oyster bracelet which is in fantastic condition and has very little sideways flex. The clasp however, does have some flex in it. 

Crystal - The watch features an acrylic crystal which was standard for Rolexes of this era. The crystal is in fantastic condition showing little to no signs of wear.
