History 

The Rolex 1601 with a Buckley dial is a distinguished variant of the Datejust, introduced in the 1970s. The Buckley dial is named after John Buckley, a notable vintage Rolex dealer, and is characterised by its painted Roman numeral markers. This unique dial design stands out due to its hand-painted numerals, often in contrasting colours, giving the watch a distinctive and elegant look. The Rolex 1601 itself is known for its precision, reliability, and classic aesthetic, making the Buckley dial variant a sought-after piece among collectors and enthusiasts.

Condition

This is a simply breathtaking vintage Rolex Datejust from 1970 which features a two-tone case in solid 18ct yellow gold and stainless steel. This model also features a very sought after “Buckley Dial” which is defined by its printed roman numerals. We have had this piece fully serviced and authenticated. The watch is working without flaw and despite not having its original box and papers, a luxury wooden presentation box along with an authenticity guarantee card will be provided. 

Dial - The dial is in fantastic condition and shows little to no flaws. 

Case - This piece features a stainless steel case and 18ct gold bezel which are in fantastic condition and show little signs of use. . 

Crown - The crown is its original Rolex screw down and is in excellent condition and works perfectly in all of its functions. 

Movement - This model houses its original Rolex Calibre 1570 automatic movement which is flawless in every way. The watch has been serviced recently and is keeping perfect time for a watch of this age. 

Case back - The case back is original with all of its Rolex markings on the inner. It shows some signs of wear from use over its decades of life. 

Bracelet - The original jubilee bracelet is in good condition showing light wear. The bracelet does have some side to side flex which is very common with jubilee bracelets of this era. The sideways flex doesn’t impact how the watch looks on your wrist. 

Crystal - The watch features an acrylic crystal which was standard for Rolex watches of this era. The crystal is in great condition showing very little signs of wear!
